There's nothing new about achieving fusion. It was being done in the lab
decades ago. The difficulty lies in getting more energy out than is put
in.

Not again!!! I've been reading about "breakthroughs" in nuclear
fusion for 20 years. My feeling is that if the break even energy
point is eventually passed, it will be with a device that emits
devastating thermal pollution: 50 000 joules in, 50 001 joules out. I
think a lot of scientists are addicted to grant money.
